Every new subscriber to EnergiTech Media between now and 30 November 2026 is entered into a draw to win a BioLite SolarHome 620 — a complete off-grid solar lighting and charging system. Here is what it is, why we chose it, and how the draw works.
What you could win
The SolarHome 620 is a small solar home system in a box. A 6-watt panel on the roof or a window feeds a control unit with a built-in radio and MP3 player; three hanging lights run off it, one with a motion sensor for outdoor use, and a USB port charges phones and small devices. Fully charged, it runs the lights for an evening and tops up a phone or two, with no fuel, no grid connection and nothing to plug in.
It retails for a little under US$150. It is not a gadget for its own sake: BioLite designed it for households living beyond the grid, and sells it in the same markets we cover.
Why this prize
Because it is a working example of the story we report every week. Across emerging markets, systems like this one are how tens of millions of households got their first reliable light and phone charge — years before a grid connection, and often instead of one. The utility-scale tenders, storage projects and transmission lines that fill our news pages are one half of the energy transition; distributed, pay-as-you-go solar in the home is the other.
We wanted a prize that a reader anywhere in the world would find interesting, and that says something about the sector rather than nothing at all. A solar home system does that. It also happens to be a very good camping light.
How the draw works
Subscribe to Emerging Energy Weekly (every Thursday) using any subscribe form on this site before 23:59 GMT on 30 November 2026. Every new subscriber address is one entry. Existing subscribers are already entered.
One winner will be drawn at random in the first week of December and notified by email. We will ship the prize anywhere BioLite or a courier can deliver it; if a delivery cannot be made to the winner’s address, we will offer a cash alternative of equivalent value. No purchase is necessary, and unsubscribing at any point before the draw withdraws the entry.
The small print
The draw is run by EnergiTech Media Ltd. Entrants must be 18 or over. Employees of EnergiTech Media and their households are not eligible. The prize is one BioLite SolarHome 620 or a cash equivalent; there is no other alternative and it cannot be transferred. The winner’s first name and country may be published on this site. Where local law restricts prize draws, entrants are responsible for checking their eligibility. Your address is used only to send the newsletter you chose and, if you win, to contact you about the prize — see our sponsored content policy for how we keep editorial and commercial activity separate.
